Yury Bugrov, a journalist with the "Provintsialny Telegraf" newspaper, was killed in the town of Balakovo, Saratov region, in the early hours of 30 October 2003. The journalist’s death was caused by wounds to the head and chest. His body was bruised and naked and his clothes were strewn around him. The crime scene indicates that a struggle had taken place.
Fyodor Spirin, acting prosecutor of the town, said there was no evidence that the journalist’s death was connected to his work.
