Yelena Roshchina, editor of the local children’s "Sami o sebe" newspaper, was shot dead in her apartment in Ivanovo on 17 July 1994. The flat she had recently acquired in Voronezh was sold two days later by the gang who had to kill Roshchina to get the necessary documentation.
Those responsible were arrested in 1998 after similar manipulations with phoney sales of apartments and two other murders in other regions. In spring 2000 the gang members, 2 men and four women, were sentenced to lengthy terms of imprisonment by the Voronezh Region Court.
