53-year-old Yury Guselnikov, a journalist with the internet publication Bolshoi Novosibirsk, went missing in the Altai mountains in August 2008. He was travelling through the Ust-Koksinsky district was due to return to the base camp with his spaniel on 12 August.
Guselnikov went on holiday in the district on 30 July and travelled with a group of tourists from Dagestan to the village of Tyungur. They returned from their horseback excursion but Guselnikov did not. Local witnesses suggest he continued to Mount Belukha. On 27 August it was announced that search parties from the Ministry of Emergency Situations had not been able to find any trace of him.
The law enforcement agencies continued their search.
