Pavel Asaulchenko, a cameraman with the Austrian Osterreicher Rundfunk TV company, was found stabbed to death on 20 November 2000 on the stair landing outside his apartment in Moscow.

The prosecutor's office instigated a criminal case and four months later his murderer was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. He said he and his accomplices had been paid 5,000 dollars to kill Asaulchenko.
