Sergei Loginov, chief editor of Lada TV, died on the night of 3 November 2000 in the intensive care unit in Togliatti after two operations.
At the weekend Loginov received a severe head injury at the family dacha. According to one version a passing vehicle struck him and he fell against the door and metal frame of the garage. The driver did not stop. Family members who found him requested that the event be treated as an accident.
Loginov's death was widely discussed locally and in the national media since it followed only a month after the shooting of the TV channel's director Sergei Ivanov.
Lada TV had backed a candidate in the recent elections to the Togliatti city duma but he had not been elected. In return for funding, some suggested, Ivanov and Loginov had offered guarantees they could not meet. Others suggested that Loginov had inherited some of Ivanov's business interests. In 2005 a book by a Novaya gazeta journalist linked the Lada TV deaths to events surrounding the Togliatti obozrenie daily.
Under Loginov in 2000 Lada TV finally overtook TV Vaz (the TV, radio and publishing concern run by Avtovaz) in popularity among the inhabitants of Togliatti.
