Retired journalist Nikolai Karmanov was found stabbed to death in his apartment in the town of Lyubim on 28 November 2000.

Karmanov had worked most of his life for newspapers and the radio in the Yaroslavl Region and continued to write for the town newspaper.

Two teenagers were detained on suspicion of having killed Karmanov during an attempt to rob him (he had just received his pension) or to steal his coin collection from his flat.
